Alex gets a 'fair go'
Alex gets a ‘fair go’ in his job at KFC
Finding work in the hospitality industry was a goal of Alex’s, and one that he has proudly achieved with the assistance of Link Personnel.
Since 2006, Alex has been employed at KFC in Wynnum, where he enjoys his job and good times with his co-workers.
Alex has been a service user of Link for close to 10 years. During that time he has worked in supermarkets, and later developed an interest in a job involving food service.
Alex’s employment coordinator, Matt Potter said that he’s seen Alex become a lot more confident in many areas of his life, including his independent travel skills using public transport, and his interpersonal skills.
KFC Wynnum employs another staff member through Link Personnel, and manager Mark Sweeney has a positive attitude about giving people with disabilities ‘a fair go’.
“I’ve had no dramas hiring people with a disability. Alex has shown himself to be a keen, reliable worker,“ Mark said.
“There might be misconceptions among employers that it will cost them money but I’ve found it’s no different to hiring any other staff.
“More employers should try it. Everyone deserves a fair chance at a fair day’s work,” he said. “If employers give people with disabilities a go, I reckon they’ll be impressed.”
