Disability Action Week 2007 had something for all
Horizon Foundation joined with over 20 disability organisations servicing the Redlands, to mark Disability Action Week between 15-21 July 2007.
On Thursday 19 July, hundreds of people came to the major event being held in Redlands: “Come and Try Sports Ability and Disability Information Expo”, organised by DSQ Brisbane South region.
The event, held at Capalaba Place - beside the library and art gallery, was a hit with the crowd, with the sports activities a particular highlight.
Seated and standing volleyball; table cricket; and boccia offered something for all. Service users from Clear Horizons, including
Chris
Spethman (pictured, playing table cricket) enjoyed getting amongst the action.
Fun and fitness was the flavour of the day, with coaches from the Australian Sports Commission's "Sports Ability", plus representatives from Special Olympics and Sam Riley Swim Schools' "Swimming Without Limits", promoting their sport and fitness programs which cater to all levels of ability.
Horizon Foundation and the event organisers are hoping that this event will be back on the calendar for Disability Action Week 2008.
